Link Building Strategies, Plain Or Text Links Best?

Link Building Strategies, What is best? Do You Prefer Plain Or Text Links?

There are links, and then there are text links. If possible, you should always get a text link, but in some of the link building methods to follow, the best you can do is a plain link.

Text links are important for SEO because it allows you to include your keywords in the link, essentially.

A plain link looks like this:

http://www.plainlink.com

A text link, on the other hand, will look something like this: Your Keyword or Keyword Phrase

You can also use your marketing message in your text link, but it is essential that the marketing message also contain your keyword or keyword phrase – otherwise, the text link is no better than a plain link.

As you can see, with text links, the keywords or keyword phrase is what the viewer sees – not the actual link. You are not trying to hide the link from viewers, however. You are simply trying to give your link more weight, by including the keywords or keyword phrase.

Again, in some instances, you won’t be able to acquire a one-way inbound text link, and you must settle for a plain link, but if you have the option, always go for the text link, and learn how to create text links as well, since many of the techniques to follow will allow you to self-serve.

Make sure that your links are clickable – whether they are text links or plain links!

Again, this may require knowledge of the very basic hyperlink tags for HTML, but many websites will automatically make the link clickable. If the link cannot be clicked, the search engines won’t recognize it as a link, and it is pointless.

This is often a problem with email signatures in forums. If the signature is not set up through the profile page, and then automatically added to the bottom of the message after you post it, and is instead just added as a part of the message when you are writing it, it often will not be clickable – unless you are allowed to use HTML tags in your message – which means that if your purpose for posting a message was to build a link, you wasted your time.

Clickable text links are what you want when you have that option. The order of preference should be a clickable text link, with the second choice being a clickable plain link. An un-clickable link shouldn’t even be considered.

Link Building Strategies – One Way Link Building For Website Link Popularity

One Way Link Building Secures Long Term Ranking Results By Daria Goetsch

One-way link building is a great way to improve your link popularity and ranking in the search engines. One-way links are more difficult to obtain than traditional reciprocal links, but pay off in securing solid long-term search engine ranking results.

Why Are One-Way Links Helpful?

Link building in general is an important part of making sure your site ranks well in the search engines. Google and many of the other search engines include link popularity as part of the way they evaluate the web pages they include in the search engine databases.

Links are seen as a positive “vote” towards the quality of the web page. Each individual page acquires link popularity based on the pages that link to it. Google and Yahoo both have toolbars showing the page rank of pages you visit, so you can use these tools to get a good estimate of your pages’ link popularity.

It is not necessaryto get totally caught up in the minutia of which types of links from which types of pages are the most important. The bottom line is this: acquiring links pointing back to your website, particularly links from sites covering the same or related topics as your site, is helpful in the overall scheme of search engine ranking.

The big “plus” of one-way links is that you don’t have to worry about linking back to a “bad neighborhood”. If your site has links pointing back to sites that serve as “linkfarms” or “free-for-all” sites, you may not gain, and could actually lose page rank.

These sites are rarely focused, and tend to have links to and from all different sorts of sites. Since there is no particular topical emphasis here, it is clear to Google and the other search engines that the sole purpose of these sites is to artificially increase the number of links pointing to your site. Since there is no value added for the search engine’s users, they in turn give no value to these links.

Another advantage to these focused, one-way links is that they will tend to stay in place. A website that features a link to your site probably does so because that site’s owner thinks that their visitors will benefit from the content your site has to offer.

Rather than simply trying to manipulate search results, they want to add to the experience of their visitors; you benefit from having a long term link in place. Sites featuring reciprocal links maysimply drop your link when it no longer suits their linking strategy.

How Do I Obtain Natural Links?

Building good content helps interest your visitors and keepsthem on your website. By becoming an authority on your topic, you will attract more visitors. When another websitein essence “votes” for the quality of your website byplacing a link pointing back to it, you are obtaining natural linking.

The more you can build upon helpfularticles, FAQs and white papers, etc., the better reason forvisitors to link back to your website because of the qualitycontent.

One-Way Linking Sources

There are a number of ways to get links from other sitesback to yours. The most important principle to keep in mindis that you will get the most links when you offer somethingsignificant to link to. Think of what you can provide thatpeople will want to link to:

* Natural links given from topic-related websites that likeyour website

* Providing free content, such as access to articles,e-books, FAQ’s and white papers

* Directory links, listed under the category related to yourtopic

* Business directory links, listed under the categoryrelated to your topic

* Blogs, submitted to a blog directory and archived online

* Business associations, listed under the category relatedto your topic

* Newsletter text ads promoting your business, archivedonline at topic-related websites

* Original articles, submitted to and archived online attopic-related websites

* Original press releases, submitted to and archived onlineat topic-related websites

* Original newsletters, submitted to and archived online attopic-related websites

* White papers, submitted to and archived online attopic-related websites

* E-books, submitted to and archived online at topic-relatedwebsites

* Free software tools provided with required link back towebsite

For each of these types of content, you will want to have anactive link pointing back to your site. Of course, whencreating your own original content, always archive your ownwork on your website to build your content and increase yourown link popularity by growing the number of pages on yourwebsite.

The extra value of one-way links is the fact that you arealso promoting your website from the listing as well as theactive link. Articles, newsletters, white papers, directoryand business association links may bring in traffic fromvisitors who are interested in the description of yourwebsite listing.

How Do I Know The Links Are Valid?

To gain the most benefit from your links, the link back toyour web page should be one that can be followed by thesearch engine robots. Plain old text links and image linksusually can be followed by the search engine robots.

More exotic types of links, like JavaScript links, cannottypically be followed by the search engine robots. When youprovide suggested linking code, the simpler the better.Don’t be afraid to suggest linking formats to owners ofsites that link to you. The types of links that serve yourpurposes best will generally provide their visitors with thebest experience as well.

Check to see if the page where the link will be located canbe found in the search engine results. You can search viathe entire website or by individual page. Different searchengines use different syntax in looking for individual pagesand links; refer to the advanced search function for eachsearch engine for details.

Google Search Example:

Shows indexing of all pages listed in website

site:www.websitedomainname.com

Shows indexing of a specific web page in website

info:www.websitedomainname.com/pagename.html

If the page is listed in the search engine results, thismeans the page has been indexed by the search engine robots. This means the web page is valid for indexing and that yourlink will be picked up as well.

Research And Quality Content Equal Success

One-way link building means hard work and long termdetermination to achieve good link popularity. By improvingthe quality of your website, you improve the chance toobtain good quality natural links.

Spend a set amount oftime each week to seek out quality one-way links to achieveyour goal. By using this long-term game plan you will beable to safely build links for optimum link popularitysuccess.

Link Building Strategies, How Many Links Does It Take?

Link Building Strategy – How Many Links Do You Need?

(Following our previous post) There was a time when people set goals to get hundreds of links a month to their website. This was typically done with special automated link pages, using the reciprocal linking strategy.

Webmasters hired SEO specialists to build links for them, they signed up for reciprocal linking services, purchased links, and even started hitting the ‘Free for All Link’ sites again.

This frenzy of link gathering may have helped to boost their rankings for a little while, but it certainly didn’t help them in anyway in the long-term. Search engines soon caught on, and getting links in the above ways is no longer an effective practice.

Link popularity was once measured by the number of links that you had.

Today, the search engines are still slightly interested in how many links you have, but they place a great deal of importance on the quality of the links you have, and the number of links that you have really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things if you have quality links.

Link Building Strategies, What Kind Of Inbound Links Do You Need?

What Kind Of Inbound Links To Your Website Do You Want?

(following our previous post) Earlier, we mentioned that there is a great deal to learn about linking – and the truth is that it can all become very confusing, and unnecessary. Again, we are going to focus on simple, natural linking strategies that will work for you – without the Masters Degree in Link Building.

But right now, you do need to understand some things about linking, because you have to decide what kind of links you want to build. There are several options to choose from.

First, you need to choose between one-way inbound links or reciprocal links – you can also opt to have a mixture of one-way inbound links and reciprocal links, but it isn’t necessary.

If you have a one-way link, it essentially means that your link is appearing on someone else’s website, but you are not linking to them from your website. A reciprocal link is just the opposite – it essentially means that you and the other site owner are exchanging links. They link to you, and you link to them in return.

The best kind of link to have is one-way inbound links from relevant topic related sites.

Link Building Strategies – The Best Ways to Get Inbound Links

When you use the Internet for business, you know how important the amount of traffic your website receives is to your business. The more people that visit your site, the more likely someone will purchase the goods or services that you have to offer.

This means that more traffic equals more money for you. A good way to create incoming traffic is by building links. However, there are good ways and bad ways to build inbound links. Here is a look at some of the best ways to build links to your website.

Start by analyzing the content of your website. You need to make sure that you have solid, good quality keyword containing content that is useful and pertinent to the type of visitors you want to attract.

The better your content, the easier it will be for you to attract inbound links. Plus, good content will keep visitors coming back once they find you.

Next, make the most of online directories. Online directories are a great way for people to find you, and are an important part to your link building strategy. Usually the links from directory pages are ranked highly.

Next, put pencil to paper – or, in this case, fingers to the keyboard – and write articles that are pertinent to your website. This can help generate more interest in your website. Many website publishers are looking for good articles to offer their visitors, since good relevant keyword content is what keeps visitors coming back. By offering these articles, you can get more links back to your website from other publishers.

While you are writing articles, you can also start submitting them to article directories. These directories are just another way that you can go about building links to your website. Look for directories like EzineArticles.com that allow you to post articles for free while you are still growing your website.

When you are working on writing articles, consider doing an e-book as well. Offering a free e-book on a topic that is useful and interesting to visitors is a way to generate links.

Online forums, bulletin boards, and blogs can all also be useful when it comes to line building. Start by building up a good reputation with these sites – you do not want to be labeled as a spammer. Then you can include links in your post signatures as a way to increase your link building program.

These are just some suggestions to assist you with building links to your website. Some or all of these may prove useful to help you generate the quality and quantity of the traffic to your website.

Remember that whatever strategy you decide to focus on, you will have to keep up with it to reach ever larger audiences.

Edit — After I wrote this post I had a few readers mention that they would like more background info on the fundamentals of link building so I will add the links below as I add new information.

Website Traffic, Keyword Phrases, And Search Engine Optimization

Do not underestimate the effectiveness of the content of your own site to increase your website traffic. In fact, paying close attention to the keywords you use in your own web content will help your web site to show up higher on search engines. The “magic” way this happens has everything to do with search engine optimization.

Here is how the process works, and why it is so important to make the best use of this valuable method of publicizing and marketing your web site.

When people think of search engine optimization, the first thing they think about is keywords scattered through the content that is found on the site. Keywords help people who are interested in what you have to offer to find your site.

Generally, persons entering one of those important keywords or keyword phrases into one of the several search engines will be directed to sites that are directly of interest and relevant to their search. A judicious use of keywords on your part will help improve the chances that you will appear high in those listings. You should shoot to be in the top ten sites listed.

Along with keywords that are in the text of your web content, you also want to register your web site with each of the various search engines. As part of that registration, you can include all sorts of keyword phrases that will add relevance to your site for a search command.

You can use terms that have a direct relationship to the content and purpose of your site, as well as keywords that have some indirect relationship to your content. For example, if your web site has to do with pet supplies, a direct keyword would be “pet.” An indirect keyword phrase might be something like pet house, pet bed, or pet snacks.

Registration on all the search engines does not cost anything, if you choose to take the time to do the work yourself. However, there are services that will create a profile for you and register your web site on a huge number of sites on your behalf.

Many of these services do an excellent job, but be prepared to pay for what you get. Most of these registration services offer different size packages, with each package including a select number of search engines. The links you get from authority sites such as these will increase your visibility to the major search engines, and get you listed quickly.

While some of the packages you can purchase will include the more popular search engines, it is always a good idea to verify which of the engines are included. This will help you to determine if the price tag is worth it.

If you choose to go with a registration service for the search engine optimization, make sure you provide them with an exhaustive list of keywords and keyword phrases. Once the task is done, you cannot go back and update the list at will.

Don’t rush into this project. Instead, take a few days and add more keywords to the list as you think of them. After several days, you will probably have a list of keywords that is broad enough to make a real impact.

One other benefit of using a registration service is that some of them will guarantee that your site will make it to the top of the search engine results. Be prepared to pay extra for this option.

However, it may be worth the extra cost if there is a lot of competition in your line of work. You can gauge the effectiveness of the venture by the number of hits you receive, plus the resulting value of the sales you make.

Of course, you can also handle the registration site on your own. This will involve going to each search engine individually and setting up the search engine criteria. A good rule of thumb is to come up with your list of keywords and key phrases before you jump into the task.

Have the list in an electronic format, so you can cut and paste them into the registration form. This will save you a lot of time with the data entry, and allow you to move much more quickly in completing each registration.

Another tip is to begin with the well known search engines first. Generally, it takes somewhere between twenty-four to forty-eight hours to deploy information about a web site into the search engine files.

By taking care of major search engines first, such as Yahoo, Google, AOL, and Bing, you will have established an Internet presence very quickly. Once these are taken care of, you can move on to some of the smaller search engines.

Don’t dismiss the smaller search engines as part of your search engine project. While the major engines will cover just about all the Internet, you never know when one of the minor engines will yield some results. Since it costs nothing to register with the engine–all which is required is a bit of your time. And after all, one extra sale will more than make up for your investment in your linking strategy.

Most search engines provide information about registration that will provide you with some tips on how to create the registration profile. In some cases, the process is very quick, provided you have all the details and keywords handy.

Try one or two of the search engines first, just to get a feel for how much time and effort is involved. Then, you will be able to decide if registration is something that you want to do on your own, or farm out to a service. Remember that your time invested is an opportunity cost to your company and should be valued accordingly.

Effective Keyword Research Is Critical To Making Money Online

How to Do Effective Keyword Research For Your Internet Marketing Niche By Jay Allyson

Introduction

Done well, keyword research is ‘key’ to driving targeted visitors to your website. In fact, the success of your business correlates specifically to the effectiveness of your keyword research.

Whether you’re promoting a business opportunity or selling tools and services from a sales page, you cannot hope to be profitable unless people visit your website.

However, you must attract not just anyone, but visitors who are interested in the product, service or opportunity you are marketing. The better the match, the more targeted your visitors and the higher quality they are as prospects for your business.

Why keyword research is important to your business success

Your best strategy will be based upon driving targeted visitors to your website. Keyword research is partly about exploring your niche ‘target’ market and partly about forcing the search engines to find your pages and rank them highly.

Getting on the first page of the search results is important to your business, since this is where the majority of people will find you. 70% of web searchers never look past the first page and the ‘hottest’ area on page one is upper left side where the top five sites are listed.

So how does keyword research help you target your visitors? Well, first, it can help you identify what words or phrases people are typing into their search engine, especially those most predisposed to your offer – in other words, highly targeted prospects equals high quality traffic.

What do people who are seriously interested in starting a home business on the Internet, for example, actually search on? How specific are their searches? This tells you where they are in the decision making process – are they ready to buy or apply or are they still browsing?

Second, how often (to a degree) your page uses certain words and phrases will determine how a search engine values it. All major search engines use ‘algorithms’ to decide how highly to rate any page they analyze. Such algorithms are essentially little programs, called spiders, which scan the text on your page and then index it based upon what the words and phrases tell them the page is about.

A properly constructed webpage should focus on one particular keyword or phrase you are targeting. You need to have your “key” words and phrases in places the search engines notice the most. These are the page title, description, meta tags and body, even the alternative text ‘tags’ for your images and videos. This is partly what search engine optimization (SEO) is all about doing.

How to identify your best keywords

The first step in your keyword research process is to find keywords that best match your most targeted visitors’ searches. Get into the minds of your prospects. What are their hopes, fears, desires, dreams?

What were you personally looking for when you came across your opportunity in the first place? What were your challenges, problems, worries, needs?

As Perry Marshall says: “What’s the conversation that’s going on in their head?” The more you can step into your prospects shoes, the more targeted and specific you can make your keywords.

You are not looking for one golden shot here. You should identify a range of keywords and key phrases, come at it from all angles, test them out and see what converts best for your particular business.

First go after one niche you can relate to personally. For example, moms looking to work from home around the kids or people who want to own a franchise business. Either may have an entrepreneurial spirit. People’s initial search may clue you in on where they are coming from.

The second stage is to identify keywords that are profitable. It’s important not to go after the obvious or most popular keywords, like home business or Internet marketing. These are far too broad and it will be either too expensive or take too much time to rank high for these in either the natural or the paid search results.

The focus of your keyword research must be on identifying longer more specific search phrases, we call “long tail keywords”, that give you a good chance of appearing in the top 5 results on the first page of Google, Yahoo or MSN.

How to use free tools to identify long tail keywords

There are many different ways of undertaking effective keyword research. Many actually make use of free or low cost tools. I’d advise starting with the free ones.

The simplest method is just to brainstorm. Write down every phrase or term you can think of that could possibly relate to your business opportunity, product or service.

Another way is to use Google itself. Type in a broad phrase like home business and you’ll see it returns millions of pages relating to that keyword.

But watch what happens as you are typing. Google will create a short list of popular searches that start with that broad keyword, so you can then type in these, and get more suggestions again. You’ll also find related keywords at the bottom of the results page for any search you do.

You can also use the free keyword research tool at Wordtracker.com to drill down in much the same way.

Although these “long tail” keywords will generate lower volume, they are usually far less competitive. For example, look first at home business, then you might drill down to “home business opportunities in Denver” or “best home businesses in UK”.

A good rule of thumb is to identify a keyword that comes up with around 5000 searches for its specific exact match search (i.e. when you add quotations round it). E.g. “how to start a home business”.

Once you have a list of potential keyword phrases you believe are a good match for your business, you can move on to more detailed research based on actual search volumes and potential CPC (cost-per-click).

Use Google’s own free keyword tool, which can be found under Tools in your AdWords account. SEOchat.com, QuantCast.com and Spyfu.com also have some free tools you can use to spy on your competition.

It’s certainly getting more competitive out there on the Internet. Check out Google Trends (Google.com/trends) or NicheBot (nichebotclassic.com) to review the competition. Be on the look out for new terms coming up that match your business then test those out using the free keyword research tools again.

Keyword research is the solid foundation for your marketing and therefore your business, so using some ingenuity and persistence to find gaps in the current competition in your niche can really pay off.

Ranking high for your keywords

Once you have your list of potential long tail keyword phrases, you should check out the competition in terms of what websites and other content is already out there. This will allow you to create unique content around your keywords that stands out in the market place.

Put each keyword into your favourite search engine and review what comes up. If one of your keywords generates search results for a lot of authority sites or sites with a high page rank, you may find it hard to get your domain website ranked high.

However, you might have good success with a blog page, an article or a video tagged with that keyword phrase, since the search engines love web 2.0 properties like these. But if there are lots of videos out there already, just make sure you create a different web 2.0 property, e.g. a Squidoo lens or hub page, or podcast maybe.

If you develop content that is both unique in type and keyword-rich for your chosen niche, you are putting yourself ahead of the game. Both the search engines and your human visitors will love your stuff and hopefully pass it on and jump start the social viral marketing process.

Testing how well your keywords convert

At the end of the day, all the keyword research in the world will only give you an indication of likely success. The real proof of how effective your keyword research has been is in the testing.

It’s important to track your keywords against conversions rather than click through rates. This is the only true test for whether you’ve hit a profitable niche for your business.

In summary:

- The ability to conduct effective keyword research is a fundamental skill that any serious Internet marketer or business owner must acquire.

- Build unique and valuable content around long tail keywords that enjoy a fair volume of visitors but do not show too much competition with the aim of getting ranked on page one of the search engines.

- Without a profitable keyword list, you will pay dearly for each click in the paid search advertising and there is little chance that you will ever be able to generate targeted, focused leads from free organic traffic.

- Effective keyword research should therefore be the cornerstone of your marketing and your business.

Keyword Research First – Then Write Around The Keywords

Keyword Research Helps You To Optimize Your Article

People search for what they want by entering the keywords or phrases into the search engines. They find what they are looking for when the sites that are best optimized for their terms are listed by the search engines.

On the internet, keywords are terms or words that relate to particular topics.  Keyword research will involve various aspects, such as finding sales oriented keywords or driving maximum qualified users to increase their online sales.

Keyword research is the first step towards a successful search engine optimization campaign. You have to be very careful when selecting keywords, as it can be very tricky to select targeted keywords for a website.

The selection of keywords should always be based on various aspects such as product names, services, brands, or general terms.  Often times, people forget about targeting geographical terms when they have global presence.

When doing keyword research, it’s highly recommended to do a very thorough market research analysis to find the best keywords used by search engines to find products and services online – and find out what keywords are targeted by competitors who are doing well in marketing on the internet.

The first step in finding the best keywords is to make a list of the products, topics, and services that you offer.  You can also make good use of your website logs to know which keywords have brought you the traffic in the past.

Be sure to select keywords that clearly define your business and products to drive traffic from the search engines.  There are some websites which get high levels of traffic through general keywords although they might not end up being sales.

Today, users of search engines are aware of how they work, for searching products and services on the net.  Users always look for the better products, locations, etc.  Therefore, you should cover all terms for each – products, locations, etc.

There are numerous tools available which will help you identify keywords that are suitable for search engines.  The challenge here, is to determine which keyword is the best to generate traffic.

Two Keyword Research Tools that many of us use are the Free Keyword Tool from WordTracker or Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Both of these can hekp you optimize your site for targeted traffic.

By the way, there are many ways to get targeted traffic that we will cover in other articles.
