Does Gender Discrimination Happen In Business?

Is There Really Gender Discrimination In Business? by Lynette Chandler

In a private Facebook group, I noticed a lot of people were looking for a tech person to work with.

So, I introduced myself. Upon returning to check on the status, I saw a post at the very top of the wall from a guy who also introduced himself as a coder.

Now, I’m not that naive to think I am the only geek in a group.

There are probably many people better at tech than me in any group.

What gave me pause was, why this guy’s introduction got so many responses when mine hardly went noticed.

A horrifying thought flashed through my mind. It couldn’t be true. Did he get more attention because he’s… a man? Maybe you have experienced something similar.

Something that made you stop to wonder if you didn’t win the bid, secure that client or get that exposure because you are a woman. Then, you look around and it looks like all the top dogs are men.

Of course it depends on the industry you are in but I’m here to tell you, even in seemingly male-centric arenas, there are plenty of women quietly making serious coin. Sometimes, we aren’t seeing the ladies because women simply aren’t vocal about their successes. And, when we toot our own horn, we often express it in an entirely different manner.

For us, being able to support our families and being there when the kids get off the bus mean a whole lot more than ‘crushing it’ or making a million dollars in 24 hours. I’m not saying women don’t strive for that. I’d love to make that kind of money any day. It’s just, our goals are often more immediate and realistic.

That is why it’s always refreshing to hear stories about real women and how they broke through the barriers. If you need a little inspiration from authentic women just like you, head on over to SoloMasterminds. They are bragging on three ladies who turned their wildest dreams into reality while juggling homework, laundry, whiny children, soccer practices and meal plans.

As for that little incident I told you about earlier, after giving it more thought, I decided it had nothing to do with gender nor discrimination of any kind. There were plenty of logical and probably more accurate explanations like the timing of our posts and how quickly my post got buried under a flurry of activity.

What I learned that week – focus on being awesome instead of speculating about something that may not be true because when working for yourself, there is no glass ceiling.

Especially with an Internet business. Don’t take my word for it. Check out the three case studies and let those women tell you their story.

Lynette Chandler helps small businesses leverage technology in their marketing. She is also the resident tech expert at SoloMasterminds and credits it for helping to turn her business around. Lynette would love to connect with you in this special community and invites you to come check it out.

Video Tutorials, How To Record Your Computer Screen For Profit

Make Your First Video Tutorial – How to Record Your Computer Screen By Michelle Schoen

Creating instructional video tutorials using specialized software is easier than ever.

By using specialized software to record your computer screen you will be able to create training videos on any subject you can imagine.

Whether you want to show someone how to check their email, or how to use Skype, or how to use your software or complete a task relevant to your expertise, you can make a video tutorial by recording your computer screen.

The reason you may want to make tutorial videos is because making a video tutorial is the next best thing to showing someone how to do something in person. In fact, it may even be better because you can show someone once, and if they can’t remember they can replay the video tutorial over and over again until they get it.

Additionally, you can earn extra money showcasing your expertise by selling your tutorials for cash.

How to create video tutorials is simple if you know what software you need. You need the right software, and you need an expertise. Ensure that you practice what you want to teach several times in order to avoid skipping important steps, keeping notes as you go along, so that your final video tutorial is perfect.

You can use software such as, AviScreen, GoView and Camtasia to record your screen to create the video tutorial.

Follow these steps to ensure a professional video tutorial as your finished product:

Step 1: Decide what you want to record – You likely are well versed in many different topics such as “How to Build a Bird Cage”. You can use a webcam to record parts of the steps. Use video editing software to edit the steps. Then you can put it all in a PowerPoint slide show. Next, you use the screen recording software to record the PowerPoint. Or maybe you just want to create a fast show recording your screen on “How to Set Up a Google Email Account”. In that case, you simply use the right software to record your computer screen as you complete the process while narrating it with your microphone.

Step 2: Pick a software – There are different software you can use, alone and in conjunction with others such as Camtasia, AviScreen, GoView, and SnagIt to create both moving and still shots of your screen. What software you pick will depend on your budget, and skill level. You can learn how to use almost any software by watching tutorials.

Step 3: Write a script – Always write down the steps and a script. Go through your process and write down the steps so that you won’t miss anything.

Step 4: Perform the script – After you write your script, perform the script. You don’t have to follow the script verbatim, but you should follow the steps so that you don’t accidentally skip over anything. That way your tutorial will be very professional. Ask a friend to view it before you set it for sale or out in the public allowing them to critique your results. This can help you add in any steps you may have missed.

Step 5: Edit recording – Using the software, edit the video tutorial taking out “umms” and mistakes. Knowing you can edit as you are recording will help you not have to stop and start numerous times. Just keep going and then edit out your mistakes.

Step 6: Format for viewing – Depending on how you plan to deliver the video tutorial, you will format your final product according to what is needed.

Step 7: Finish up – You’re all done – sell it, give it away and promote it!

Making Video Tutorials can be one of the fastest products you will ever create and there is nothing like the power of video! Learn how to create quick video tutorials for fun and profit by visiting VideoTutorialProfits.com.

FREE Traffic Generation For Greater Profits

Know Your Free Traffic Sources and Use Them Wisely

Veteran internet marketers know this fully well.

There are basically two ways to get free traffic on the Internet these days and that’s either through a search engine or through a social engine.

The methods presented to you in this report are used by large enterprise marketers – companies and organizations of 100, 200… thousands of employees and team members.

Now, some of them use some pretty expensive, proprietary technologies along with these free methods, but these free methods are used in one way or another by many enterprises.

The list of traffic generation methods you will see below is a roster of free tools that anybody can sign up for, in any country, and you don’t have to pay a cent to get started with any of these services.

For almost every traffic tool listed here, there’s going to be something in it for your social media marketing campaigns and strategies, and there’s also going to be something in it for your search engine marketing campaigns and strategies.

There’s almost always a free version of whatever it is you’re trying to do; it’s just a matter of you being a little more “creative” (shall we say).

There are two sides to viewing and understanding the web: search engine, or social engine.

Both are critical to online sales. Whenever you have the option, go with the free method for Traffic Generation.

Of course, if you have deep pockets that will get you though the learning stage of paid traffic, that will work too.

Repurpose Your Articles In Social Media

Social Media Shortcut – Turn Article Snippets Into Tweets and Posts By Susanne Myers

I don’t know about you, but I struggle a bit at times with social media.

They can be quite a time sucker, but at the same time, they are a great source of traffic for our affiliate sites… if we can manage to add great content on a regular basis and start a conversation with people in our target market.

One thing I’ve started doing recently that’s been working very well is to reuse some of the content I’ve already written as Facebook posts and tweets. Let me explain…

Start with an article that includes 5 to 10 tips on a particular topic.

Now take each of these tips and use them as individual Facebook posts or tweets. If needed, you can shorten them up a bit. This is especially important for Twitter.

Create A Series Of Tips

You can also create a series of tips to encourage your friends and followers to consume more of your content. Here’s an example:

Quick Tip #1 – Drink more water to lose weight.

Quick Tip #2 – Start dinner with a big salad to consume less calories.

Quick Tip #3 – Do pushups during TV commercials to get more exercise.

Each of these tips could come straight from a 7 Tips for losing weight article. If you have a whole bunch of related tips, create a twitter hash tag for them (i.e. #quickweightlosstips).

Make It Interactive By Asking Questions

Another great idea is to take some of these tips and turn them into questions. “Drink more water to lose weight” becomes “Does drinking more water help you eat less?”

Another option is to take the overall theme of your series of tips and toward the end of it ask your readers for their favorite way to do something. Going back to the weight loss example we could simply post on Facebook or tweet: “What’s your best weight loss tip”.

And since we’re all about reusing content, you can take the replies you’re getting to write future articles, blog posts etc.

Another option for Facebook is to take a few of the tips and create a poll from them. This gives your friends another way to interact with you and give you feedback on what works best for them.

Now that you have all this extra content that you can use on social media sites, you have to get it out there somehow. I find it hard to remember to log in twice a day and post some stuff.

I use a website called Hootsuite to help me manage my social media accounts. It allows me to access all my accounts in one easy to use dashboard. But my favorite feature is the fact that I can schedule posts to go out at certain times.

This means that I can take one of the articles I’ve written, grab 5 tips from it, rewrite them into short tweets or Facebook posts and add them all at once. The software will then make them live at whatever date and time I specify.

And now I would like to invite you to learn more about affiliate marketing and how you can grow your own niche site in as little as 30 minutes a day using the strategies and checklists I’m using each day.

by Susanne Myers – Daily Affiliate Tasks

Traffic Generation, Make Money Giving Away Free Reports

Generate Substantial Free Traffic From Free Reports?

One of the oldest traffic generation techniques is the use of free e-reports.

When your content is a downloadable report format, it has a higher perceived value than if it was in a normal web page.

The reader must take time to download it and it allows more flexibility in how they read it.

It’s the ultimate way to make your content go “viral” as group to group passes on your report.

Articles, videos, and other types of web content fail to make the same high-value impact.

The result is free reports allow you to grow your traffic exponentially and on autopilot.

Of course, it doesn’t always work-out like this.

Too often free reports lack the right ingredients to catch on and spread.

I have found that “Free Reports Riches” digs into the strategies that experts use to generate thousands of dollars a month directly from e-reports… and how small marketers can do the same.

You really don’t have to re-invent the wheel. This marketing method succeeds and passes the test of time. You just have to know how to correctly practice the strategy and stick to it.

The system gives simple step-by-step instructions to:

  1. Get your report created quickly and easily.  In fact, 3 of the creation methods described allow you to get it made without you writing a single page. It might take less than an hour to get your first report created and out the door.
  1. Get your report read.  This includes having the right formatting, ingredients to grab attention and hold it throughout, and it covers costly mistakes most marketers make.
  1. Get your report spread.  Finally, Free Reports Riches gives a strong run-down of all of the best ways to distribute your report and get it into enough hands for it to take on a life of its own.  The strengths and weaknesses of each are explained.

All of this information is uncovered in a hefty 70 page written guide, and 12 “see exactly how it’s done” videos.

Overall, “Free Reports Riches” covers all of the vital and advanced information you need to profit from free reports in the shortest possible time.  The result is you generate targeted free traffic to any site you want and establish yourself as an authority in that market.

Video Marketing And Creation – Common Questions Answered

Create Training Videos – Common Questions And Answers By Michelle Schoen

Creating training videos can move your business forward to the next level establishing yourself as an expert in your niche.

Whether you use the videos to train clients or employees creating free or low cost training videos will give you the extra oomph that you need.

You can in fact, create an entire business around training. Some common questions about creating free training videos are:

How do I record my computer screen?

Simple! Use a program such as Camtasia, click a few icons to start up the program and before you know it you’re recording your screen. You can record your screen to show anyone how to do anything on a computer such as: how to zip or unzip a file, how to upload a video to YouTube, how to solve an algebra problem, and much, much more, the sky is the limit — only your imagination can hold you back.

Can I give away the videos I make free?

Of course! You can give away free videos to your clients showing them important information about how to use your products or services. Additionally, video is a nice “premium” gift to give buyers for another purchase of some kind, or even an incentive to purchase more. For example, if you sell color cosmetics you can include a video on the proper way to use your product.

What if I want to charge for the training videos I make?

Then charge for them. Simply create a sales page for your videos, market them and watch the orders come in. Training videos can be hot property especially well made ones that avoid skipping important steps. If you know how to do essentially anything from planting a container garden to making graphics, you can record it your work as you complete it, describing everything you do, and provide the edited recording as a teaching tool.

Does it cost much to create a training video?

No, training videos don’t cost much to produce if you learn how to do it yourself. Even if you hire an expert to edit your raw footage from your flip cam or other camera the cost is well worth it. However, there are free and paid programs that you can use to create your training videos yourself if you care to learn. The trick is learning how to use the software and learning what the best ways to set up the videos are. You can do it quickly and today if you get started.

Website Creation Basics For Online Profits

Basic Elements for Website Success
By Angela Wills

When someone decides to sell their products or services on the internet, the first thing they usually do is set up a website.

After that first step many people feel lost as to what to do next.

There’s pay per click, affiliate programs, social networking, search engine optimization, blogging and so much more.

How do you decide what to do first?

It might seem like the first thing to do is start bringing a steady stream of traffic to your website so you can start making those sales. Before you do that, the best thing to do is make sure your site is really ready to get traffic coming through the door.

If your website isn’t ready to sell, there’s no point in bringing a single visitor to it because they’ll just come and go without doing a thing for your business.

Here are four things you must make sure you have taken care of before you send anyone to your website:

1. Keyword Research – If you’re not doing keyword research then you are blindly guessing what people want. You need to find out what people are looking for and give it to them.

This is a very important step and it’s often overlooked. I can tell you for the longest time I thought keyword research was boring and not that important, so I ignored it. I spent a lot of time building websites that very few people came to visit.

Once I decided to actually research what people wanted and then used those keywords to optimize my site, I began to see traffic growing because people were searching for those terms.

Doing your keyword research doesn’t have to be hard. One of the best sites to find very targeted keywords is Wordtracker.

2. Copywriting – You don’t have to be a copywriting wizard to have great copy on your website. The words you use on your site determine what happens when those visitors stop by. Make sure you KNOW what you want them to do so you can tell them to do it.

Every page on your website should have a purpose.

There are really only two basic actions you want your visitors to take when they come to your product or service website:

- They can buy from you.

- They can look for more information.

If you keep these two actions in mind then everything you write can have a purpose. Of course you want to keep a good balance and not try to sell all the time, or not give away free information all the time.

3. Tracking – Once you start getting visitors, you’re going to want to know where they came from. If you know where your visitors are coming from then you can go ahead and do the same things to bring more traffic to your site.

Some hosting programs come with a statistics program, but not all of them give you the information you need.

Google offers a great program called Google Analytics that you can use to create very detailed reports and track details of where people come from and what they do on your site.

Here are some things you’ll want to track:

- what sites people visit from

- what pages they visit

- how long they stay

- what keywords they search to find you

4. Newsletter or Mailing List – The majority of people that come to your site won’t buy at first. So, you want them to take that second action of looking for more information.

You don’t have to do a big newsletter each week if you don’t have the time. Another option is to have a quick tips list each week. It’s just a quick way to keep in touch, give people some valuable information, and make an offer every now and then.

If you make sure you have these four things in place before you start looking for website traffic then you’ll be setting your site up for success!

Profitable Business Results Need Creative Thinking

Your Creative Thinking Can Improve Your Business Results By Donna Price

As a Business Owner, You Have to Focus: Creativity; Continuous Learning and Consistent Implementation

Has your business been challenged by the current economic status? It is an opportunity to put into action the advice: “When given lemons, make lemonade.”

It is the notion that a failing business or a struggling small business CAN turn around with a few additions of “sugar and water”.

But what is that sugar and water for your business?

First it is creative thinking or thinking “out of the box” and stretching your own creativity.

Your business plan is designed to be your map to success. But just like driving to a destination, it is easy to be distracted, make a wrong turn or get confused by the landmarks. The map helps to keep you on track, keep your focus and keep you moving in the right direction!!

Business plans just like life plans are not written in stone. They are fluid and always subject to changes and revisions.. Your business is bound to have at least one of these changes in direction or new destination and perhaps it will have more than one.

It could be the addition of new products, services; or a new location; or new management, but something will change along the way.

An essential component of your plan is your marketing plan. And, with the Internet, marketing has become even more fluid than in the past. Marketing used to be simpler, perhaps. Now is is an ever changing environment.

You plan for a set of strategies and techniques and then the marketing environment changes, like with the advent of social media and your plan has to change to accommodate these innovations. You have to figure out how they fit into your business.

Press releases used to be just that, a press release to local media. Now you can submit your press releases online as well as to the local media. The resulting affect is multi-dimensional.

Knowing your numbers is an essential in marketing, so that you can tell what is working and what is not and you can make changes when you see your sales numbers tumbling. This is why you want your marketing strategies to be cutting edge.

You need to be watching what works in the market place and making the needed changes to your plan. When new media comes online, it is an opportunity to look at it and evaluate HOW it will work in your business.

The marketing strategies that you are currently using can become stagnate and ineffective. If you are not constantly evaluating what you are doing and what other strategies you can implement you can lose touch with your target market and how to reach them effectively.

It is not a time to get comfortable with the status quo. It is a time to be watching, evaluating and implementing all that you can.

Taking on new strategies can be overwhelming. Twitter, for example is a marketing tool that many laughed at when it first came on the scene. Even the media questioned what it was and why people would use it. But now, a year later, you see all major media personalities are using Twitter. Is your target market there too?

Learning new strategies for reaching out to your current and potential customers just makes sense. It gives you a new venue for adding your marketing message, building a new community of “followers” or contacts and reaching out.

Continuous learning is an essential key. You have to stay up on what is happening and what new strategies you need to implement. Be creative in how you implement new strategies for your business and be sure that each strategy is a good fit.

But don’t ignore new strategies because you don’t understand them. You might miss something very important that will work well for you.

Creativity, consistency and continuous learning are all essential as you build your business.

Learn To Use Camtasia Screen Capture Software

What is Camtasia Software?
By Michelle Schoen

Camtasia 7 is very powerful software that you can use to capture your computer screen, or use to edit video that you’ve recorded with another type of camera like a webcam.

You might wonder why you would want to conduct screen recording but when you consider that by using software such as Camtasia to record your screen you can then teach anyone how to do something on the computer.

Some of the functions you can complete using Camtasia:

Record Desktop – Perhaps you want to show your mom how to block people on Facebook, or you want to show employees and contractors how to add an appropriate email signature using Gmail or Outlook, you can do it. You simply set up the software, record your screen, and speak into your microphone while you conduct the task that you’re trying to demonstrate.

Screen Recording – You can create a PowerPoint presentation, and then record it as you conduct the thing that you want to show someone how to do. You can probably imagine many different tasks that you’d like to demonstrate to show others how to do.

Screen recording enables you to create a variety of Camtasia tutorials that will be useful to your employees, contractors, staff and / or students. Additionally, any type of event can be captured and edited using Camtasia software.

You can use a combination of presentations, captured digital footage both action and still, and use the Camtasia software to bring it all together in a professional format with voice overs and special enhancing using highlighting, text, flash animation and more.

Camtasia software is used by many University professors to create tutorials for their online students and even for extras for their traditional classes.

Once you create the tutorial using Camtasia the software automatically creates the end product in the form you choose whether for viewing via a website or whether via a download in another format.

When you’re done creating your training video, you’ll be given a choice to publish in many popular formats such as FLV, MP4, MPEG, 3GP and others.

These various choices will enable you to post your end training video on your website, within an email, within a membership website, for download, and in many useful ways for the intended recipient, your target market, to watch and learn from.

You can use these training videos to train your audience how to do something, or why they should do something, adding interest to your offerings thus increasing your expert status exponentially.

Online video is quickly becoming one of the most prolific and effective marketing strategies for your business in 2011 and beyond! You can learn more by visiting http://www.learncamtasia.com.

Make Money At Home, Start A Transcription Business

Work at Home Typing Jobs Are a Reality
By Loretta Oliver – Transcription Crash Course

If you’ve been looking into working at home you’ve probably seen plenty of ads that claim you’ll make hundreds of dollars per week typing from home.

Unfortunately, many of these ads turn out to be ad typing scams that ask you to spam places like Craigslist and other free databases online.

The reality is that you can make money working from home with a typing job, by offering transcription services.

This doesn’t require experience or a lot of funding. In fact, you can get started with little or no start up costs at all.

You might be wondering who exactly is going to pay you to type these documents from your home computer. Here’s a shortlist of a few people and places that need transcription services regularly.

  • Internet Marketers have information products and interviews transcribed.
  • Podcasters have their shows transcribed to distribute in text format on their blogs.
  • Legal offices have client interviews transcribed for their records.
  • Insurance companies have client phone call recordings transcribed for easy referencing.
  • Busy bloggers and site owners have voice notes transcribed to turn into articles.

Those are just a few to give you an idea of the demand for transcription services online today. There are plenty of other opportunities out there to offer your services and make a decent living as a transcriptionist.

So, what’s the pay like? I’m sure you’re wondering. In today’s economy everyone wants to make a dollar. Transcriptionist rates vary with experience, type of files handled, and turn around time, but a general or legal transcriptionist can make anywhere from 30 dollars per audio hour to 160 dollars per audio easily.

Why is the rate per audio hour? Rates are a little different in the transcription world, instead of charging per hour that you’ve worked you charge by the length of the audio or video you are transcribing.

Don’t worry though, this usually works out quite well and your hourly rate is quite decent in comparison. Of course, with more practice you become more efficient and it’s like giving yourself a raise without changing your rates.

The Transcription Crash Course is an easy to follow guide to help you start your transcription business today. What are you waiting for? Make your work at home dream a reality.
